I have been transferred to a city in the lower part of the Greater Baton Rouge area called New Iberia. This area has just recently been reopened. The Elder Before me was doubled in with my current companion. New Iberia has a lot of a poorer class of people. It's sort of a city compared to other areas. It's not as Big as NOLA but it is still very urban. Theres a lot of violence in the city and there are a couple of streets that we are restricted from traveling.
We have a large area with few miles on our car so we spend a lot of time biking which I am fine with. I just hope my bike can last. It's starting to wear down.
I have now been out for about 20 months so this area is probably the last stop for me.
The branch is Awesome. The members are very supportive. and it is actually pretty large for a branch. Definitely bigger than Amite was. Plus we meet in an owned building instead of a rented one. Our Branch President just got called this last sunday. So it was me and his forst sundays in the branch together!
Because of previous missionaries that served here the members lack in trust with the missionaries here so part of our work is trying to mend that bridge so we can involve the branch more fluidly in our work and make greater progress in our missionary efforts. We as missionaries are utterly useless without the members I have discovered.
My Companions name is Elder Latham. He is a cool guy from Orem Utah. He's a softer spoken guy who has a burning sense of duty to do the right thing and work hard. Which I am very grateful for.
We 0 investigators right now. And very little headway. We spent the past 4 days going through our area book and getting ourselves organized and making calls and putting people into the Gps and trying to schedule appointments with Former Investigators that had been taught here. All while trying to get out of the apartment and do fieldwork too. We probably taught the lowest number of lessons Ive ever taught on my mission in a single week this past week. But hopefully all the work we've done to get ourselves set will pay off in the coming weeks. We are in a huge finding mode Trying to talk to every single person we see. Ive really enjoyed it. I love to meet new people.
There is a lot to do. I look forward to seeing New Iberia change. This branch Deserves to see some growth.
