Dear Everyone,
This has been a fantastic week. I went on 2 exchanges with the Elders in our District and Learned a lot.
Me and Elder Roskelley are still getting along. We've moved into a point in our companionship where we know each other very well now. We've been able to help eachother a lot. We still have to adjust for eachother every now and then But I am learning that adjustment is to be expected for any new missionary. 12 week is moving slowly but effectively. We are both learning a lot.
I went on exchanges with Elder Johnson AND Elder Arellano this week. I hope I was able to put forth a good enough example for Elder Johnson. He's a new missionary. Elder Arellano is training him. They are spanish speaking. We had a good time. He has chummy, laid back kind of personality. We made a good lesson plan to teach the Plan of Salvation. We reviewed it that morning in Companionship study and right before we went into our lesson while we were waiting for the member we were going over it again. I said; "Alright, how about you teach the first 3 principles and kick us off nice and strong. I'll talk about our life on earth and the spirit world. Then I'll go over Judgement and Resurrection and set you up to talk about the kingdoms of Glory. Just like we reviewed this morning." We had a good plan and taught in great unity. Elder Johnson did a great Job. He explained the principles clearly. I bore testimony of them and taught my parts. We didnt teach the whole thing because the people we were teaching turned out to be slower learners than we had thought. But We got through the first half, committed them to be baptized. on October 15th! They will be getting maried on the 8th hopefully. The member bore an excellent and timely testimony. We gave them an assignment, said a prayer, And we were able to leave with the spirit still in the room.
Me and Elder Arellano have always had awesome exchanges. I love working with him! We've been on so many together now we are almost like 2nd companions. He's been in my District since I came to Amite. My favorite thing about our exchange was that we left at 12 that morning after lunch, and Language study Then never came back home once. We were out visiting and working with people ALL day long. There wasnt a moment to spare! Our focus became centering the Lessons around a specific and strong commitment. We struggled with it a good part of the day. But one of the last lessons we had that day was with a Member. We felt to commit her to go back to the temple and to set a date to attend there again. When we did she Was very hesitant. We inquired further and she explained that she had a smoking problem that is keeping her from going that she has been keeping a secret for a couple years now. We read Ether 12:27 and talked about How weaknesses can be made strengths. We were able to give her some great hope and a promise that she could be back in the temple in a very short period of time if she worked hard. It was probably one of the most powerful lessons that day. and It was all because Our lesson was very centered around our COMMITMENT. I look forward to hearing how she's doing again sometime.
I love My Area. Amite Rhymes with Unique.
On fast sunday yesterday I stood before our congregation of 42 (which was a new record for us actually!) and bore what might be my last testimony to our little branch. I pointed out the 2 girls I have been able to teach and prepare to be baptized and continue teaching since I've been here. I love them. They are so young but so active. They have true testimonies. I asked the Older girl once if she'd ever got an answer to her prayers when she prayed about the Book of Mormon. She said that she had. I asked her what happened and she said "HE siad It's true. and The Bible is true too." I'll never forget that. So many things from those girls I hope I never forget.
Im Including a picture of a washed out road that we found in our area this week as well as a picture of the after effects of all the Mormon helping hands. Our Gym is still full of supplies that were used to help repair houses. I have no Idea what were going to do with all of it.
