So My new companion is Elder Roskelley from Logan Utah!
He's a pretty cool guy. He reminds me a lot of my little brother Ryan. He's probably been one of the funniest companions I've ever had for that reason. I love him already.
Im going to let him tell you a story about what happened to us this week:
Just the other day a lot of our plans just were not going through and very few people who we planned on teaching turned out to not be home or couldn't meet with us at the time. So we then had a lot of time filled with nothing till our next appointment on our hands. So we then said a prayer for God to inspire us through the Holy Ghost, to direct us on where to go. We then looked at elder Davis's GPS and we both mentally picked an area on the map that we felt we were most inspired to go to. Elder Davis and I picked the same area so we decided to head there. When we arrived in the area, Elder Davis said, "I know why we are here." His last companion had gone to the area on exchanges and had met someone on that street. So we then parked and went to the first house. In the home there was and old man who seems to be a person that really loves God and Christs Teachings and seems to have a lot of knowledge. We tried teaching him the Restoration but it turned out that he thought we were simply teaching with a parable and not an actual story. The visit was okay overall though. We might go back there again someday.
As soon as we left his home we looked next door and saw a lady on her front porch. We walked up and asked her how she was doing. She said that someone had died. We don't know who she said died but we do know that it was someone important. We then asked her if we could say a prayer with her and then we were about to talk to her some more when her little daughter came running up and then asked her momma what was wrong. Elder Davis and I knew we should go then and we said our goodbyes.
We walked around the of the home and then we saw a group of people gathering at a home. We asked someone what sort of gathering it was and a lady said her uncle had passed away. We said sorry and walked away but then we both felt we should pray about it. The Spirit then told us we should go back. We then walked up to the house and asked the people on the porch if we could say a prayer with them and for their family and one of the ladies must have recognized us as missionaries and said yes. We went in and my companion Elder Davis shared Alma 7:11-13, then gave a prayer and afterwards we left with a better Spirit behind us. Some of those people probably thought what in the world but others I am sure were grateful. We didn't share any message about the church or Christs Gospel. We only gave a simple but powerful thought and prayer.
The funny thing about that whole story with those three homes is that we arrived/left each place at just the perfect time. We were stopped by the right people and led to the right people. If we were even 1 minute off, the whole thing would not have turned out the same. Every time I look back on it think about the who thing with awe and wonder on how when we as missionaries submit ourselves, we can be used as proper tools. We don't know the whole plan but we can have Faith and knowledge in the moment that the future will just turn out all right.
This was a col experience for me too. There must have been about 20 to 3 people at this house mourning the loss of a person. We bore powerful testimony of Christs power over death and were able to leave with a great experience.
Me and Elder Roskelley are going to do great.
