I love my area so much. New Orleans is such a great place to work I have learned and felt so much here in my individual life and have shared many wonderful experiences on the streets and in the homes of New Orleans. This place is just the best.
Mardi Gras was a lot of fun. Depending on where you go and what you are attending Mardi Gras actually can be a very friendly family experience. That's what we went for. Parades in NOLA are put on by 'Krewes' which are like highclass social clubs. They usually have a whole bunch of money. That they pretty much dump right into mardi gras. We attended parades by the ZULU krewe and the REX krewe. There is a lot of culture and things behind each of the krewes. They all have their own flavor and style. Rex is called the king of Mardi Gras and is the very last parade to run through. Zulu is a very popular one that represented the black population in the New Orleans parades way back in the day. They wear face paint instead of masks. and they are known for handing out beautifully decorated coconuts in their parades. It's kind of their thing. Everyone who goes to ZULU wants to get a coconut. I didn't get one this year. But somehow every other missionary did. They shared with me a little bit. I guess the krewe just didn't like my face! I'm over it. Whatever. I like my face. All the floats that pass through throw a lot of beads to the crowd among other things like stuffed animals, hats, and other cheap little knick knacks. People go crazy for it though. It's kinda funny. One missionary got a pack of ramen noodles thrown to him and another in our apartment got $20!
I will include lots of pictures.
Our area has picked up a lot this week. It feels really good to be back at work. I was dying for it. We have found a lot of New investigators and continue to receive MANY referrals from Headquarters! I am enjoying working with the members and helping them do their missionary work and can feel the Spirit working through me so distinctly. I wouldn't trade those experiences for all of the coconuts in the Zulu warehouse. It is impossible to describe the joy that comes from this. This is truly the greatest thing we can be apart of. The saving of the Human souls. Wear your beliefs on your sleave! Don't be afraid to share who you are. You might be someone's angel.
I love you all. I haven't read all of my emails yet Im running out of time though. I'll try to get to everyone but I cannot promise that I will be able to. Im a slow emailer....
