I want to love this area as much as I loved New Orleans. Amite has been different. It feels like the tiniest little corner of the vineyard sometimes. But I do believe that I have been able to contribute to making a difference here. The joys of a mission to me are found in the details. So this week Im just going to list a bunch of stuff I love about my mission:
TEACHING is everything. I love teaching effectively and with power. I love seeing people feel the spirit and then lock into what you're saying, hanging on every word. Trying to understand what it means for them. I love meeting lots of new people and then realizing that none of them really want a change in their life but your short exchange with them changed their day. That makes me feel succesful. The little bits I get to do. I love even more finding someone who IS looking for a change and then being able to share that I know what can provide it!!
I love finally figuring out why someone isnt progressing in their life and then giving them real and practical feedback that is led by the spirit to help them change. I love seeing God's vision of things. I love feeling the plans that he has for our tiny little branch. I have recently loved making scripture chains in lessons to teach principles. I love watching the learners face as they read the scriptures and begin to understand the message it conveys. I love it when people deny the truth of our message or get a little angry about what we're sharing and I have the opportunity to bear my own witness that what they think of our message really doesnt matter because THIS IS THE TRUTH and as Nephi said; One day, "you and I shall stand face to face before his bar; and ye shall know that I have been commanded of him to [teach] these things, notwithstanding my weakness." I love helping people and listening to their stories. I love hearing their fears and weaknesses and hopes and dreams. I love just smiling and talking with them about their day. This is my family!!! I love finding similarities in beliefs and building off of it.
I really just love my mission. I love the person I am becoming and the person that God has shown me I can become. ... .. I just want to be a better person. There are so many things I dont do well. and there are things I dont do that I really need to do. I love the struggle. I love the fight to be Obedient. I love the feeling of opposition that comes with trying to be a leader/do the right thing. I love having to stand alone sometimes. I really do love that. I think everyone needs to feel that at some point. I need to feel that more often. I love the standard I have been called to bear. And I love my own progression in meeting it. I love Matthew 10.
And I love you!!!!
Picures this week:
I got a haircut. My hair has never been shorter than when I've been on my mission. I've never payed for a haircut. I've only payed for clippers. 😓
